Decide what products you want to sell, if any. For example, have you developed worksheets, project plans or procedures while working with other clients that you could remove any proprietary information from and remarket? As a consultant, you clearly have to offer services or you do not have a business!!! Offering products, on the other hand is not a requirement. Advantages
- Additional revenue streams for your consulting practice
- A great way to market some “canned” solutions for clients who may not be able to afford your customized solutions
- Expands your client base
- Through the product purchase phase you are given another chance to ask clients if they would like to receive your newsletter – if you offer such a service
Disadvantages
- It adds a layer of complexity to the website including getting a shopping cart, SSL certificate and merchant account
- With downloadable products, it is very easy for people to duplicate your consulting products and perhaps resell them
- Ideally you should have a toll free number so anyone can call regarding questions on any of your products
